    Information

▪️We’ll discover that the island of Cyprus was well known to the world’s earliest civilizations — even though the first humans arrived here surprisingly late.
▪️We’ll talk about how ancient people created the world’s first transnational market — and why this market couldn’t function properly without Cyprus.
▪️We’ll learn when the Greek-Cypriots settled on the island, and why they were most likely refugees. We’ll also discuss the mysterious Bronze Age collapse that destroyed nearly all Mediterranean civilizations.
▪️We’ll explore which gods were worshipped in ancient Cyprus and take a look at the most famous surviving temples on the island.
▪️And of course, we’ll talk about the ancient languages of Cyprus, how they connect to the island’s modern languages, and touch on the basics of archaeology, geography, and linguistics.

Lecturer: archaeologist and historian Anton Kostichev.
